Obituary of Robert Hewlett

February 15, 1973 – October 30, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Dwayne Hewlett on Oct. 30, 2017 at the age of 44. Robert passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of his wife Michelle Hodder, of St. Bernard’s, NL and father of his two boys; Deklan (16) and Warner (14) of Grande Prairie, AB.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his parents Wallace and Effie Hewlett of Miles Cove, NL; his parents in-law; Bill and Joanne Hodder of St. Bernard’s, NL; his three brothers; Ronnie (Tina) of Grande Prairie, AB, Roger (Melanie) of Springdale, NL, Roy of Miles Cove, NL and his two sisters; Joanne of Miles Cove, NL and Jennifer (Charlie) Hynes of Miles Cove, NL. He is also fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Treena (Robie) Ward of La Crete, Brothers-in-law Bill (Dennise) Hodder of Beaumont, AB and Shannon (Bonnie) Hodder of Charlottetown, PE. He also leaves behind many extended family, nieces; Summer-Lynn, Veronica, Ava and Sienna, nephews; Kirklin, Andrew, Joshua, Keith, Austin, Mason, Liam, Gavin and Logan, cousins, aunts and uncles and close friends.
Robert left home at a young age to serve in the Navy. He later went back to school and found his calling as a Millwright. He worked in Grande Prairie at Randco Millwright Services where he made friendships that will last beyond his lifetime. Robert married in 2000 in High Level, AB and welcomed two sons into the world in 2001 and 2002. Robert was a devoted family man who always put his family first. He placed a huge emphasis on living life with honesty and integrity, and he highly valued the importance of knowledge and education. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic, a true nature of selflessness and it always gave him joy to see his children’s successes in school, sports and music endeavors.
Robert left this world knowing he had given his everything to his family and they would have a community around them to guide them through this journey. Some of our fondest memories of Robert were the simple things he did. It was watching him tend to the family’s small backyard garden; tinkering with motors and gadgets with his sons, and fixing computers and cell phones for anyone who asked. He enjoyed dirt biking in the dunes and teaching his boys to do the same. He enjoyed hiking and was always up for a new challenge, it never seemed too hard, he was up for anything. Hearing stories of how he grew up in a small fishing community and the adventures he’d find with his brothers. Listening to how he grew as a man while in the Navy. He was a gentle, quiet man that never asked for much but gave of himself endlessly.

Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to join us at his memorial service on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 11am. There will be a short service followed by a catered luncheon in Tranquil Hall.
