Obituary For Arne Peter Nordby

November 14, 1921 – October 25, 2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arne Peter Nordby, age 100, at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital on October 25, 2022. Arne was born in Scranton, North Dakota to Carrie and Andrew Nordby. He was the youngest of eight children. He lived on the family farm until he was drafted into the Second World War. After the war he attended school in Los Angeles for mechanics. He travelled with his brother and friend across North America and eventually landed in Gundy, BC in 1961. There he rented land to farm and met and married Verna, in 1962, who lived down the road. The two of them bought a farm near Valhalla Centre, AB and in 1963 had a daughter named Rhonda. Arne farmed the land and tended to livestock with the support of his loving family. Arne and Verna lived on the farm until 2016 when they moved into Grande Prairie, AB. In his spare time Arne enjoyed woodworking, fishing, reading, and puttering around the yard. Arne was very good at problem solving when it came to machinery. He could often find a fix for everything, with very little. Often if he didn’t have the right tool, he’d make it. Arne was very devoted to his family. He almost always made a point to come home for meals. Then he’d have a quick nap before returning out to the field. Arne is survived by his loving wife Verna, his daughter Rhonda (Greg) Krause and his granddaughter Morgan Krause. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews He is predeceased by his mother Carrie, father Andrew, brothers Art, Norris, Harry, Clifford and Kenneth and his sisters Helen and Eva. A funeral service for Arne Nordby will take place at La Glace Bible Fellowship Church, La Glace, AB on October 31, 2022 at 2:00, pm with interment at Valhalla Centre Cemetery to follow.

Morgan and I were childhood best friends- which usually meant we were over at Arne and Vernas on a regular basis when I was visiting Morgan's house. He was genuine and I always remember him puttering around the yard doing something. Condolences and hugs to the family. It was a pleasure to know him.
