Obituary For Buzz (Ward) Sallis

February 14, 1954 – September 1, 2023

The world became much smaller on September 1, 2023 with the passing of Buzz (Ward) Sallis at the age of 69. Buzz’s wish was to leave this world with dignity and grace, with his sister Cim and brother-in-law Dale by his side, and that wish was granted.

Buzz was loved by many. He was feared by a few, too, until they figured out that behind the scowl and deadpan one-liners was a big-hearted, humble man whose kindness and sense of humour won over everyone he spent time with. Buzz loved country music, history, watching and playing sports, and reminiscing with family and old-timers. Back in the day he was always up for a challenge, a dare, and a good time. He will be thought of often by friends and family members, who each have special memories of the Buzz that was.

Buzz’s life was filled with love, family, and friendship, but it was not without hardship and the loss of treasured loved ones, including his parents Bill and Pearl, his twin brother Ben, and his dear partner Rose. In his later years, countless health issues took a toll on him. He persevered through many, conquered some, and was overcome by others. Eventually, he had had enough. He was ready, as he put it, “to see the view from the other side.”

At his request, Buzz will be cremated and put to rest in a pine box with a roll of quarters for the jukebox. A casual, no-fuss send off will be held for family and friends on October 21, 2023 from 4 to 8 pm at the Elks Hall, 10806 – 106 Street Grande Prairie.

Buzz’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all those who cared for him at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and at Emerald Gardens.

My mom, Dorothy or Ducky as she was known in the Lachelt family, was one of Buzz's favourite aunts and they would sit close to one another and pat each other's hands and tell stories. He was a colorful character who everyone loved to be around. So quiet and thoughtful in his later years but with a subtle sense of humour. He will be sorely missed by us all !!! Condolences to the whole Sallis clan on his passing .

My sincere and heartfelt sympathy for Gary, Ted, Cindy and all of Buzz's family and friends. Growing up together in Wanham and being in the same grade, I fondly remember him as a talented athlete. He had a great sense of humor, always a big smile., a gentle guy, who was friends with many. May he now rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Buzz. Many wonderful childhood memories 💖. Love the quarters for the jukebox, those were the good old days! Celebrated many a birthday lunch with Rose not knowing her and Buzz were dating. What a pleasant surprise to find out they were, both very special people 💖
