Obituary For Constance Emma (nee Kaplan) Ross

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Connie Emma Ross, on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the age of 90.

Connie was born in Spirit River, AB, on November 30, 1931, to James and Mary Kaplan. She married Cliff Ross on January 24, 1952, and they were blessed with five children. Connie’s warm smile and laughter could light up a room. She worked along side Cliff for many years in the Service Stations and lastly their shop, Concliff Motors Ltd. but enjoyed her family most of all. She spent many hours with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one of her three great-great grandchildren. Connie also enjoyed cooking and baking memorable meals and treats, always making sure everyone had enough. Connie was also an avid gardener, growing beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables. She and Cliff spent countless enjoyable evenings playing cards with long-time friends, Shirley and Danny (deceased) Shannon. Her other loves were of horses and dogs. You would always see mom walking one of her dogs, Jude, Jude II and Tootsie. After the passing of Cliff, Connie continued living at Wild Rose Manor. Her mealtimes in the dining room were spent chatting with friend, Mary Andres, of their “lives on the farm”, something they had in common dear to their hearts.

Connie will be sadly missed by her sons Darrel (Audrey) and Kelly (Vikki), daughters Loraine Goff (Wayne) of High River, LeAnne Reynaud (Ian) and Marj Ross of Richmond, BC, nine grandchildren Kris Kostiuk (Shantela), Natasha Rigler (Cory), Katrina Robbins (Will), Juliane Roy (Eldon), Glen Lyall (Lena), Jeremy Ross, Monika Benoit (Mike), Graham Ross and Jodi Kramer (Tyler), along with 16 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and sisters-in-law Barb Kaplan and Ida Ross.

Connie was predeceased by her husband Cliff Ross in 2016, her parents, James and Mary Kaplan, sister Patricia (husband, Jim Cline), and brothers, Phillip Kaplan and John (Donna) Kaplan.

Many thanks to the staff at the Grande Prairie Care Centre, Wild Rose Manor (November 2012 to December 2021) and the interdisciplinary health care teams in Grande Prairie for their continuous and compassionate care of Connie Ross.

A Celebration of Connie’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 10th, 2023 at Bear Creek Funeral Home (11802 99 Ave in Grande Prairie, Alberta) at 2pm.

Donations in memory of Connie can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

With many thanks, care has been entrusted to Bear Creek Funeral Home.

To Cliff and Connie's family, Our hearts are with you during this difficult time. My dad (Bill Hunter) thought the world of Cliff as a mechanic (and as a friend) and always took his vehicles to Concliff Motors as did many in GP. As part of the next generation, Gary and I became good friends with Kelly and the "liquor store crew". We have now recently learned that the Benoit and Ross clans have joined and are now related to other members of our family. It is so difficult to lose a parent, but those wonderful memories ease the loss. Lesley and Gary Krpan

There were a handful of times we would go vist Aunt Connie and Uncle Cliff form Edmonton. They would let us stay over. And my most vivid memory was of Aunt Connie laughing at uncle cliff for having mixed all the cereal together. I remember her saying "I got that out for the kids". In the evening she made us cheese toast in the oven, how did she make it taste so good? She was a kind woman and truly loved her family. My condolences, Stephanie (Kaplan)

We remember going to their house when Rick and I got married. Her Grilled cheese sandwiches were the best I've ever had. May her light shine bright always.
