Obituary For Douglas Arnold Hudson

With broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our Dad, Douglas Arnold Hudson, 71 years, of Grande Prairie, Alberta. Passed away on April 7, 2023 in Edmonton, Alberta. He left us to finally be reunited with his beloved wife Sharon.

Doug was born in Belleville, Ontario on July 24, 1951, to Arnold & Eileena Hudson. Once Doug completed High school, the master of all trades found work easily. In 1969 he met the Love of His Life, Sharon and in 1974 she became his wife of 47 years. Our family lost her in January of 2022 and Dad’s broken heart was never the same.

Doug dedicated more than 40 years of his life working in the oilfield while still maintaining farm life with Sharon, North of Sexsmith. Dad worked for numerous oilfield companies over the years due to his vast and valuable skill set and having an unmatched work ethic. Dad was a very smart, loyal man and anyone that knew him was a better person for it.

Dad was gifted with an additional 15 years due to the generosity of a heart transplant in 2007. We were so fortunate that we had these extra years with our Dad and we ask that you consider signing the back of your Alberta Health Care Card to consent to be an organ donor.

Doug is survived by his 2 loving Daughters, Angelina (Mark) & Shawna (Daylan), both of Grande Prairie, Alberta. Grandchildren, Dylan (Amanda), Derek (Heather), Riley (Deanne), Alyssa (Dylan), Kalli-Lynn & Devon. Great-Grandchildren, Aubrey, Daxton, Jaxton, Kolton & Cohen. Brother, Arnold Hudson of Ontario.

He is preceded in death by his wife Sharon, his granddaughter Kaitlin, his parents Arnold & Elieena Hudson, and his in-laws Russel & Jocelyn Wright.

In lieu of flowers, Doug’s Family requests that donations may be made to the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute in Edmonton, Alberta (donation link provided under Doug’s photo on the left of this page).

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the staff who cared for our Dad at the University of Alberta hospital in IC Unit.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 2pm at Bear Creek Funeral Home (11802 99 Avenue, Grande Prairie, Alberta). A Celebration of Life will be held after the service in Prairie Hall, Bear Creek Funeral Home.

“DAD, we are at peace knowing you and Mom are finally together again”

I love seeing his big smile when he came into UFA picking up supplies for many years. I will always remember helping him figure out how much 1/2 log he needed to do the outside of his home at the time. He was so proud to be improving it. The last time I seen Doug was at TP country where he would stop in and catch up and BS about how life was going. Doug will be greatly missed.
