Obituary For George Joe Platzer

January 20th, 1935 – July 11, 2023

Born in Calais, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Platzer. His family surrounded him with the love he deserved as he found his way home. Born with dirt and oil in his nails to John and Anna Platzer. His titles included the farmer, the heavy-duty mechanic, the welder, the teacher, and “Master of all Trades.” His most important title was being our loyal protector. He walked through his days serving his family. The love and loyalty he displayed was reciprocated as we had our very own “Hero.”

We will miss your stories, your laughter, your hugs, your ice cream scoops, your suspect counting in crib, but most of all YOU! All our love Dad/Papa George, we hope we made you proud.

George is survived by his wife of 62 years Turid (Frantzen), son Warren (Sheila), daughter Monica, son Darren (Janet), and daughter Ingrid (Larry); grandchildren Jon, Jordan, Josh (Kaitlyn), Brandon, Trinity, Chris (Amy), Megan (Taylor), Ashley (Aaron), Jayme (Taylor) and Jensen and his 14 great-grandchildren, his heart and soul.

George was pre-deceased by his grandson Sheldon Smith (July 19th, 1986 – February 20th, 2023).

We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Prairie Lake Seniors Community for allowing us to just be a family this past year. The support and compassion displayed in his final week of life was sincerely appreciated. Father Leo and Father Ed of St.Joseph’s Catholic Church for their spiritual support in the last two years. To all our family and friends who knew the walk was getting harder and still carried us.

Funeral Service to be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Thursday, July 20th at 11am. Interment to follow at the Grande Prairie Cemetery with a luncheon following at the Jackpot Bar and
Grill, 10924 92 Avenue, at 1pm.

Memories of George take me back to 69 Road and beyond in Valleyview, George's beloved Peace Country !! The Platzer farm was always well tended by George, with the Cat scraping, disc breaking the ground and root raking the bush piles. George was the consummate handy-man able to make anything run and power thru the farm and bush clearing chores at home and community pastures afar, get-er-done George !! George flipping hamburger patties and serving ice cream at the Sturgeon Lake Williamson Park Concession with his beloved Trudy was a joy to behold. The eternal Love George and Trudy shared for 62 years was demonstrated by the softer gentler family man as they raised 4 great kids, with many grands & greats to follow. George will be fondly remembered by us all with memories of a humble man that took loving care of his family and got things done !! RIP George. Trudy and family, you are in our Hearts ❤️❤️ Ian Sanderson and Family.
