Obituary For Joan Shirley Corfe
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Joan Shirley Corfe (nee Anderton). Joan was born on June 18, 1935, in Vancouver, British Columbia and passed away on August 4, 2023, in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
Joan’s life had many adventures as she followed her loving husband, Fred, around on his many journeys. Through thick and thin, all of Dad’s adventures became Mom’s adventures. She would always take Dad’s ideas in stride and make the best of every situation and adventure.
Mom loved to garden and could make even a “Charlie Brown tree” look beautiful in her many flower beds, which always seemed to have at least one rose bush. It was hard for mom not to be able to garden as her health deteriorated in the past 10 years, but she also found the beauty in the wild look of a garden and would say “it’s okay if nature takes over for me now”. Many a day as we were growing up, mom would say “I need to go weed my garden now”, which she often did to get away from the struggles of life and she knew she would be left alone out there in quiet.
Together our parents celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2021. They were always proud to say in their own family tree there were over 130 people, which continues to branch out.
Joan is survived and missed by her 8 children along with their spouses and partners, numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren, a brother, and numerous other special family and extended family members.
We know this past year without Dad by her side was a very hard year for Mom and we take comfort knowing they are together again. We hope you have both found nature’s beautiful garden that you can take peace in.
