Obituary For Joyce Elma Persson

July 19, 1930 – February 19, 2023

Joyce Elma Persson, 92, of Grande Prairie, passed away on February 19, 2023.

Joyce was born in Last Lake, AB to Olive and George Wearden on July 19, 1930. She had 12 siblings and grew up in Brownvale, AB.

Joyce was very loved by and blessed with 11 children and 67 grand, great, and great-great grandchildren. She cherished every visit and every phone call. Her legacy and impact on her family, loved ones and friends will live in our hearts forever.

Joyce was predeceased by her husband Rod Persson, sons Terry and Ron Wald and her grandson Nathan Wald.

She was a very social lady who made friends wherever she went and loved her coffee and tea gatherings. She very much enjoyed planting her flowers and garden in the spring. Baba was always in the kitchen prepping a meal or baking up a storm. She loved singing along to old country music, bowling, curling and was always winning at bingo.

Her family fondly remembers her favorite saying “I haven’t seen you in a hundred years!”, even if it had only been a short time between visits.

A service will be held later in the spring for family and friends.

I remember fondly visiting Auntie Joyce with my family when I was a child, many decades ago, I especially loved her baking, rhubarb jam and laughter. Last year I had the pleasure of speaking with her when we arranged for Joyce to speak with our mom and her sister Eunice just prior to our mom's passing. Rest in peace Auntie Joyce. Sandra Edelman
