Obituary For Judith (Judy) Karen Hansen

April 10, 1945 - October 24, 2022

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Judith (Judy) Karen Snydmiller Hansen. Judy passed peacefully after a lengthy illness in the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.

Judy was born in Grande Prairie, one of six children to Elmer and June McLaughlin. Judy married Dennis Snydmiller and they had four children together. They divorced after a time. Judy met and loved Charles Thomas Lay, until his passing. After many years, she then met and married Don Hansen and moved with him to the Shuswap. After Don passed, she moved back to Grande Prairie, where she had been for two years until her passing, but her heart remained in the Shuswap.

Judy lived for her children and grandchildren as well as her animals. She was known to everyone for her kindness, compassion, and generosity. Her entire life, she was everyone’s mom and Gramma. Judy personified love. She was a shoulder to cry on and a pillar of strength. Her home was always a safe haven to land when you needed one, whether you had two legs or four. As shown in the loyalty, love, and kind words of those who knew and adored her, it demonstrated that Judy invested her love well.

Anyone that knew Judy, knew that she loved to garden. Her Shuswap home on the river was a flower paradise, and she was turning her current yard into the same beautiful haven. She loved animals, making ceramics, watching motocross, and Blue Jays baseball. Judy is survived by her children, Margo Snydmiller (Chris Harris), Toni Snydmiller, Bob Snydmiller (Jude). Stepson, Ron Hansen (Nida). Her grandchildren Lacie Popesco, Dallas Snydmiller, Chase Popesco (Kora), Allyson Toor (TJ), Joel Snydmiller (Courtney), Miranda Snydmiller, Lexi Snydmiller, Adam Harris, Sarina Snydmiller, Chaz Snydmiller, Sebastian Hansen, Ashton Hansen, Cassandra Hansen, Savanna Hansen and Johann Hansen. Great grandchildren, Sophia Snydmiller, Declan Popesco, Harlowe Johnson, Everett Snydmiller and Clayton Snydmiller.

Judy was predeceased by her mom and dad, common law husband Tom Lay, Husband Don Hansen, Daughter Patti Snydmiller.

The Memorial Service for Judy will take place on Tuesday, November 1st at 1pm, at Bear Creek Funeral Home 11802 99 Avenue, Grande Prairie.

Live stream will be available for family and friends who cannot attend.
