Obituary For Maria Magdalena Luken

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Maria Magdalena (Krug) Luken on Dec 12th, 2022, at the age of 86, in Grande Prairie, Alberta.Maria was born in what was Raschen Kries Trebnitz, Germany on May 10, 1936, to Conrad and Martha Krug and was the youngest of four children. She was born and raised during WWII and after the war they were removed from their family home, eventually settling in Oldenburg where her father made deliveries to the Luken Family. In 1947, at the age of 11, Maria started work as a nanny and by 16 she started work at the meat factory. Maria and Ignatz Luken started mailing letters to one another and in 1959 Maria moved to Fairview, AB, Canada, and married Ignatz and they had five children. They were devout Catholics and a long-term member of the St Thomas More Parish. Maria and Ignatz worked various cleaning jobs for multiple businesses until they both took positions at the Fairview hospital where they retired.Maria loved family very much and it was hard to leave but she was welcomed in Canada by the Lukens and enjoyed all the benefits of a large family. Maria was hard working, innovative and a dedicated worker on the job and at home. If a job needed to be done, she wasn’t afraid to get dirty and worked as hard or harder than everyone else.Maria is Survived by her children: Marty (Kim), Maria Young, Clem (Sue nee Przybylski), Fran Primeau (Scott) and Jason; Grandchildren: Nick (Katie), Kelsey (Cory), Mitchell (Nisha), Emily, Maddy, Jill (James), Aaron, Sabrina (Doug), Mandi, Kristian, Addison (Dixon), and Samantha; Great Grandchildren: Mila, Ellory, Layne, Bennett, Palmer, , Katelyn and Brooklyn; In-laws: Lisbeth Krug, Agnes Breunig, Fr. Aloys Luken OMI, Hubert Luken (Diane), Liz Luken, John Thoma and Alphonse Pfoh. Maria was also adored by many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Maria is pre-deceased by her Husband Ignatz Luken, her parents Conrad and Martha Krug, as well as Siblings: Conrad Krug, Hubert Krug (Steffi), and Hilda Schulzek (Helmut); In-laws: Maria Luken, Alfons Luken, Otto Luken, Elli Samson (Hubert), Erna Newman (William), Joseph (Denise) Luken, Henry Luken, Tony Breunig, Paula Thoma and Martha Pfoh.Prayers and viewings will be held at St Thomas More Church, Fairview AB on Wed Dec 14th, 2022, between 7 and 8 pm.Funeral services will be held at St Thomas More Catholic Church, Fairview, Thurs. Dec 15th, at 1:00 pm by Fr. Isidore Onyeka OMI.In lieu of flowers, please plant a flower in Maria’s memory. If so desired, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.Thank you to Fr.
