Obituary For Marion Louise Field (Howarth, nee Boyd)

May 30, 1932 – August 8, 2023

The family of Marion Field are sad to announce her passing on August 8, 2023, at the age of 91 years.

Our mother was the first born of Matthew and Yukola Boyd, and was joined by three younger sisters, Gladys, Yukola, and Sheila. Marion grew up in Hythe, Beaverlodge, and Sexsmith before moving to Grande Prairie to work in a bank at the age of 17 (leaving school to pursue work opportunities). This is where she met Raymond Barton Howarth, and they were later married on December 13, 1950.

Marion and Raymond welcomed four children into their family- Douglas, Sherrie, Murray, and Gregory. They opened their first business in the fall of 1967 and in 1972 they expanded their businesses. Many years later Marion won Businesswoman of the year in Grande Prairie for her ladies’ wear store Lady Eve. Our father passed away in the fall of 1986, and a few years later Mom then retired and entered the world of politics.

She later married Bob Field, and he and Mom travelled somewhere every year and would spend their winters south with no snow. Bob passed away in the spring of 2008 and Mom continued to travel for a few more years.

Mom became ill with dementia and passed away quietly on Tuesday afternoon, August 8th at the age of 91. Mom had a great life, travelling the world.

A Celebration of Life for Marion will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 2pm at Bear Creek Funeral Home 11802 99 Avenue Grande Prairie.

Marion’s family wishes to extend many thanks to all the staff at the Grande Prairie Care Centre, the staff at the Wild Rose, and to our family friend Dr. Jim Pope and his wife, Sharon for all the care they provided to our mom and family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Grande Prairie Care Centre 9705 94 Avenue, Grande Prairie AB T8V 3A2 or to the Wild Rose through the Grande Spirit Foundation 9505 102 Avenue Grande Prairie AB T8V 7G9.

I loved the short time I cared for your mom. She was so kind and loving. She had such a sense of humour she was adorable and hard not to love. I'm so happy I was able to met her. She will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to Marion's children and families. Marion was a very special person. I knew her as a very lovely young woman, who would come along with the Anglican minister from Sexsmith, to hold a service in the Bad Heart schoolhouse on a summer Sunday. Marion would play the little "pump" organ to accompany the hymns! I saw her occasionally in later years. She always had that marvellous, sparkling personality! She was delightful!
