Obituary For Martha May Kimpe nee Wurtz

July 26, 1928 – May 8, 2022With heavy hearts we announce the passing of beloved mother, mother -in law, grandmother, and aunt, Martha May Kimpe at the age of 93 in Grande Prairie at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.Martha was born the second of 5 children to Andrew and Katie Wurtz in Grande Prairie where she was raised and stayed the remainder of her life outside of a brief 3 year stay in Australia prior to marrying her husband Ed. Martha farmed with Ed in the Grande Prairie area until Ed’s passing.Martha worked and travelled with the Alberta Treasury Branch for many years and then worked for Statistics Canada until her retirement in 1994. She was an avid curling fan as she had curled in her younger years, as well as being a big Blue Jay’s fan. She was very athletic as a young woman and skied, climbed mountains, curled and played baseball.She had also been active in the local horse racing circle and owned and raised a number of race horses.She leaves to mourn her son Greg, daughter-in-law Kim, granddaughter Jaydin (Kyle), grandson Connor (Candace) and granddaughter Annika (Dominic), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Ed in 2011, sisters Mary, and Edna, and brothers Bruce and Dwight.A funeral service will be held at Bear Creek Funeral Home, 11802 99 Avenue, Grande Prairie, on Saturday May 14th at 11 am with a light lunch to follow.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation in Martha’s name.Care entrusted to Bear Creek Funeral Home 780 830 7742 bearcreekfuneral.com

    My sincere sympathy to Greg, Kim and family. I enjoyed working with Martha during the Census a few years ago and we always had a big chat when we met. Thinking of you all at this time of sorrow.
