Obituary For Richard John (Smitty) Smith
May 6, 1947 – April 23, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard John “Smitty” Smith. He passed April 23, 2022 in his home surrounded by family after a brief battle with lung cancer.
John was a long-time resident of Grande Prairie and originally from Athabasca, Alberta. “Smitty” as he was known, left an impression on everyone he met, whether that be good or bad you would remember “Smitty”. He was always willing to lend a hand and to share a story and a laugh. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Pegie, daughter Megan Smith, son Jason Smith, grandsons Kade and Mason Smith. His mother Maggie, siblings Bob, Diane, Jan and their families respectfully which include many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his father Jack Smith.
There will be no memorial service at his request.

I knew Richard from a healthcare workers perspective, we knew when to expect him and it was a highlight to the day for sure when we seen him. There was always a laugh to be had and some sassy jokes to be shared. He was a kind man who will be missed. My condolences to the family and friends who will miss him dearly.
