Obituary For Shawn Edwin Richardson

March 31, 1983 – August 14, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Shawn Edwin Richardson on Monday, August 14, 2023. Shawn had been out camping with family and friends on the August long weekend and had an unfortunate fall where he tore the patellar tendon on both knees and required emergency surgery to repair them. He was recovering in the hospital and passed away from an unexpected complication from the surgery.

Shawn was born on March 31, 1983. Shawn was a fiancé, father, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, grandson, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Shawn lived for his family and his life finally became complete when he met Christine and Morgan. Recently they welcomed little Liam and their family became four.

Shawn was so proud of his family and strived to be the best partner and dad that he could be. He was also an amazing big brother to Dale, Andrew, Melissa, and Miranda, an awesome and fun uncle to his nieces and nephews, and his circle of friends was far and wide.

Shawn started his life in Peace River and then with his family, Grande Prairie became his final home. A special place in his heart was at his grandparent’s farm in Webster. He spent many days splitting firewood, ski-dooing, dirt biking, hanging out with his brothers, sisters, cousins, pulling wrenches with his Grandpa and most of all, enjoying his Grandma’s cooking. That’s where his love of preparing food for others began.

Shawn dabbled in many occupations but finally found his calling driving big truck. Shawn was working for High Gear Water Services and had never been happier. He loved his job, his boss, his co-workers, and they were like his second family.

Shawn loved the outdoors, and nothing made him happier than sitting around a campfire whether it was in a backyard or along side a river. Some of his favourite things were quadding, camping, cooking for others, hanging with family and friends, and most of all, being with Christine and their boys.

Shawn will be greatly missed by his fiancé Christine Jones and their children Morgan and Liam. Shawn is also survived by his parents Gerry and Kim Richardson, biological mother Theresa Campbell, his brother Dale and wife Cherry and their son Dalen, brother Andrew and his partner Meggan, sister Melissa and her partner Cavin and her daughter Rylee, sister Miranda and her children Madison and Emmett. He is also survived by his in-laws Brad and Liz Jones, Christine’s brother Brandon his partner Kim and his daughter Emma. Shawn will be missed by numerous extended family including Grandmas, Aunts, Uncles, cousins and his two closest friends, Bug, and Kevin who were like brothers.

Shawn was predeceased by Grandparents Bud and Carol Richardson, Tony and Georgina Martin, Larry Marriner, Uncle Jack Richardson, Auntie Sandy Isaac, and Auntie Rose Richardson.

A Celebration of Life to honour Shawn’s memory will be held on Saturday, September 9th starting at 2:00 p.m. with official program to start at 3:00 p.m. The Celebration will be held at Shawn’s parents’ home – 9350 – 69 Avenue, Grande Prairie, AB. As Shawn would want, bring your appetite as there will be plenty of good food and even better memories. Please also bring a lawn chair and beverage of your choice.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Bandaged Paws or a charity of one’s choice.
