Obituary For Wilfred Fredland

It is with heavy hearts we mournfully announce the passing of our loved one, Wilfred Fredland.

He passed away after a short illness at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, after living at Prairie Lakes Senior’s Facility for 4 years.

Peter and Asbjorg Fredland, Wilfred’s mom and dad, came over to Canada from Norway and settled in LaGlace, AB. Wilfred was born in Sexsmith, AB on February 17, 1939, their third child, and raised on the farm in LaGlace. Wilfred attended school in Northfield and LaGlace, AB. His family took homesteads in Fourth Creek, AB in 1955.

Wilfred met the love of his life, Serene Larson, in 1958, and they were married in June 17, 1960. The couple purchased farmland in Fourth Creek, AB in the late 1960’s. Darrell was born in 1961 and Travis followed in 1964. Wilfred loved his family, as well as working on the farm with the cattle, horses and pigs, especially the horses.

Wilfred and Serene went on many camping trips with their boys, and the boys and their families spent lots of time at the Farm as well as at the acreage in Spirit River. He loved playing tricks on his grandsons, and neighbours! Especially at Halloween - He was a kid at heart.

Wilfred was part of the Fourth Creek Community Club for many years, the 4 H Club, Fourth Curling Club, the Peace River Cutting Horse Club and played ball with the Fourth Creek Flyers for years.

Wilfred Fredland is survived by his wife of 61 years, Serene, and his son Darrell (Carolyn), Travis (Sandy), grandsons David (Alexandra), Scott (Bailey), Chad (Randi) and Tyson (Brittney), sister Cynthia Parker, Janet Wyant (Glen), sisters in law Bonnie Fredland, Norma Keown (Dudley), Faye Tulloch (Jerry), Audrey Craddock (Ron), Debbie Sutherland (Angus), Sandy Sandul (Allan), Sherry Walker (Jack), brothers in law Ernie Larson (Sharon), Dwayne Larson (Erin) and Dean Larson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
