Wilf was born and raised in Carrot River, Saskatchewan. He met his wife Muriel in 1972 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. In 1976 they moved to Sexsmith, Alberta with their three children where he worked at the canola plant until its closure in 2002. He then went to work for Peak Energy until his retirement in 2016.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and boating.

Wilf is survived by his wife Muriel; his son Darcy (Ashley); his daughters Anna Marie (Nathan) and Cindy (Mike); his son Daryl; grandchildren Taylor, Brandon, Kole, Dylan, Justin, Ryan, Emily, Krystinalyn, and Joshua; as well as his sisters Therese, Pat, Germaine; his brothers Donald, Bob, and Bruce.
