Ernie was born in Leross, Saskatchewan and moved to Cranberry Portage, Manitoba at a young age. In 1956 he moved to Cranberry Portage where he drove truck for Frank Quinn, and met the boss’s daughter Diane. They married in 1959 and started their family. Dennis was born in 1960, and Don in 1961.
In 1973 Ernie decided to move the family back to Saskatchewan and return to farming near where he was born and there he built a thriving farm.
